The pediatric surgery department of Necker- Enfants Malades covers different pediatric surgery subspecialties: urology, neonatology, colorectal surgery, hepatobiliary surgery and transplantation, thoracic surgery AND Oncology.
The department is working with the medical pediatric oncology units of Curie and Gustave Roussy Hospitals and patients are referred from these institutes for surgery or sent to them for medical treatment when patients are directly referred to the surgery department.
All the pediatric surgery specialties have oncologic activities in the Hospital: neurosurgery, orthopedic, H&N, plastic and cardiac surgery. This allows specific procedures requiring multidisciplinary approaches. The hospital is thus treating more than 500 cases of children cancers requiring surgery, 130 being treated in our department. The programme is integrating in- and outpatient clinics, tumor board discussions (three / week), calls and OR. About 25% of patients are operated with robotically assisted procedures in the frame of a pediatric robotic program accounting now for more than 400 patients in 4 years. Applicants have to consider that they will participate not only to the oncology program but also to the others activities.
